Chicago - Rockford
After picking up my rental car, I drove northwards from Chicago O'Hare International Airport, stopping off at Gurnee Mills Mall, to the North Dunes Nature Preserve on the banks of Lake Michigan. From the airplane the lake seemed endless and from the bank it still appeared to go on infinitely.
After enjoying the sunshine on the shore of Lake Michigan, I turned westwards to Rockford. I passed Zion, Antioch and Richmond before hitting an incredible storm. Darkness fell and the rain pelted down. I didn't see much of the North Illinois towns of Hebron, Harvard, Capron or Timberlane but arrived in Rockford just as the storm had passed.
